Cricket Wicket finally opened………wicked!!

Group standing with cricket bats on a new wicket strip

Cllr Eddie Fennessy, Mayor of Navan was joined by Cllr Padraig Fitzsimmons;  Directors of Meath County Council, Martin Murray and Barry Lynch ; Meath LSP staff Mary Murphy and Lisa O Dowd along with representatives of Cricket Leinster and Royal Meath Cricketeers for the opening of the Cricket Wicket strip in Blackwater park in Navan.

The cricket wicket was funded by Meath Local Sports Partnership (LSP), under Sport Ireland`s Dormant Account Fund for Community Sports Hubs capital measure. Key support was provided to the project by Navan Municipal District.

Meath LSP was awarded funding as part of the Community Sports Hub in Windtown. The aim of the hub is to increase the number of people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities participating in sport and physical activity within their community. The development of this cricket strip will further enhance Meath LSP`s engagement with the wider local community in particular with those representatives from new communities.

Currently, the Royal Cricketeers Meath are based out of Blackwater park. They are very much looking forward to using this cricket wicket as part of their weekly programme of activity.

Meath LSP are working with Cricket Leinster to develop cricket programmes which will be available to the local community over the coming weeks.
