Cannistown NS pupil, Sophie completes her first marathon relay!

Congratulations were extended to Cannistown NS pupil, Sophie O Leary who completed her first school Marathon Relay event. Sophie (2nd class pupil), along with her school colleagues was delighted to complete the 42.1km distance.

Meath Local Sports Partnership provided Sophie with a handcycle which enabled her to take part alongside her classmates in this whole school event.

Speaking about Sophie`s achievement, her Mum, Latoya, – spoke about what it meant to Sophie to be finally able to take part in this annual school event. “Sophia truly enjoyed using the handcycle, it gave her great freedom and confidence to be able to independently take part with her classmates. This means so much to us.”  Not only was Sophie thrilled with her achievement, her family, her classmates and teachers were delighted also.

Principal for Cannistown NS, Kevin Mullin spoke about Sophie as a role model within the school, how her determination to succeed is a powerful example to all the pupils and teachers in Cannistown NS. He finished by saying how immensely proud the school and its community were of Sophie.

Sophie`s participation in the marathon cycle was made possible by Meath Local Sports Partnership providing a handcycle to Sophie. Meath LSP has two handcycles available for loan (one handcycle is upright and suitable for children while the other is a recumbent handcycle suitable for adults). The handcycles are propelled by the user`s arms.
