Meath Local Sports Partnership are delighted to announce National Play Day 2022 will take place on a day or combination of days from the 2nd – 9th July.
The aim of National Play Day is to promote play (and recreation) opportunities for children and young people all across the country. Through this initiative, Meath Local Sports Partnership are managing applications on behalf of Meath County Council. Pre-schools, Montessori, creches and other early years education providers and groups working with children and young people are encouraged to apply for this scheme to avail of an equipment play pack and staff training day.
Play packs will comprise of a variety of items including: skipping ropes, bean bags, hula hoops, foam balls of different sizes and shapes, rackets & balls, cones, space markers & bibs. The equipment caries in size, colour and texture and is suitable for inclusive games for children with additional needs.
A training day will be held in one central location. Participating centres & child care providers will be invited to attend and take part in a 2-3 hour training session taking them through the equipment and games that can be delivered to children of a variety of age groups. The training element is key as it brings a sustainability to the initiative where by games can continue to be delivered year-round and build on what was delivered during National Play Day. These games will be inclusive and will improve children’s fundamental movement and physical literacy skills which are key to children’s development and lifelong involvement in sport & physical activity.
The National Play Day is just one component of the wider Summer of Play campaign; a government-led initiative designed to remind everyone, young and old, of the fundamental importance of play. This years theme is “All play together”.
